Rats, Rats, Thousands of Rats...In Hollywood

 (themoviedatabase)

RENFIELD-2023-Big budget Hollywood garbage. If producers, directors and writers don't understand how to make a decent horror movie they shouldn't bother. They just fill the screen with violence and gore and make a guy (Nicholas Hoult) who eats bugs the hero. Then they get nearly has been actor Nicholas Cage to play Dracula like an overacting ninny. (I guess they all forgot about VAMPIRE'S KISS (1988)) It was a box office bomb and deservedly so. Director Chris McKay should stick to Legos and Robot Chickens.

Bram Stoker?

 (imdb)

BRAM STOKER'S SHADOWBUILDER-1998-A weird priest with a gun (Michael Rooker) battles a shadow demon who wants a kid in a small town. Bugs sting a deputy to death, an old man axes his wife, dogs turn on their master, fun stuff like that. The town lunatic (Tony Todd) helps out. The script and acting are pretty bad.

The script is based on the story “The Shadow Builder” by Bram Stoker from a short story collection “Under The Sunset”, published in 1881 and of course it's nothing like this movie. Director Jamie Dixon did visual effects for other movies.

Primal

PRIMAL-2010-Somewhere in Australia, 6 people explore some ancient cave paintings. A woman in the party gets bitten by a rabbit with extremely long teeth. Leeches and bugs plague the camp. The woman becomes an animistic cannibal and she kills and eats a kangaroo. Later she terrorizes her remaining live ex-friends until most of them are killed. But one guy she kills comes back to life and joins her in eating and screwing. The climax is stupid and drawn out with a nasty scene featuring a pregnant woman disemboweling herself and the sole survivor violated by some kind of worm blob. Director Josh Reed as of this writing has yet to venture into another feature film production.

It Might Bug You

MIMIC-(1997)-Some people like insects. Love 'em or hate 'em Guillermo del Toro's MIMIC at the very least will make your skin crawl.

A entomologist (Oscar winner Mira Sorvino) accidently creates a mutant type cockroach that likes to eat humans. It's pretty routine until the fairly exciting climax in an old subway terminal where blood, guts and gore fly. Charles Dutton is on hand as a cop who says "fuck" a lot. Jeremy Northam (who was in ARMISTAD the same year) is Sorvino's boyfriend- doctor who whispers most of his lines. Giancarlo Gianini hangs around too. You could do worst....

Del Toro's next effort was the excellent THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE and then BLADE 2.
