It Happened Again!

  (bloody-disgusting.com)

SLEEPAWAY CAMP 3:TEENAGE WASTELAND-1989-Angela (Pamela Springsteen) returns. This time she kills a girl going to a sleep away camp and impersonates her (she runs the girl over with a garbage truck in broad daylight and no one notices). There are two groups at the camp: one of "privileged" kids and one of snotty street punks. They're all jerks. And Michael J. Pollard is one of the camp owners! Angela's first murder is by giving a reporter tainted cocaine. The most gruesome but funny death is when she puts the female owner neck deep in a garbage pit then runs over her head with a lawn mower! Although most of the deaths are pretty macabre. The end sets a sequel that fortunately was never made.

Kudos to director Michael Simpson for giving up on this misguided series which some see as a black comedy. I see it as junk...

PS: I just read there is a part 4 so beware!

Unhappy Sequel

SLEEPAWAY CAMP 2: UNHAPPY CAMPERS -1988-The little girl/boy murderer from the original is back but now she's Angela (Pamela Springsteen) a woman thanks to an operation she had at the insane asylum. She now works at a camp for her Uncle John (Walter Gotell). She's cheerful but strict and goes off when she catches the overage dorks fooling around. Only Molly (Rene Estevez) seems to like her. When John fires her she really goes berserk and kills everyone including two young kids.

This typical '80's slasher movie with death by burning and latrine has a terrible metal hair band soundtrack but slips a Dead Milkmen song into one scene. Producer/director Michael Simpson also made a sequel.

Bloodhound?

DRACULA'S DOG-1997- In this strange horror movie some Romanian soldiers unearth a vampire tomb and Count Dracula's pet dog Zoltan escapes. The pooch also frees Veidt (Reggie Nalder), the count's human servant. He and the demon dog go to California to make a guy named Michael Drake (Michael Pataki) their "new master". While Mike and his family are on a camping trip Viedt has Zoltan terrorize the family by making their dogs (including a puppy) into dog-pires! Later an inspector (Jose Ferrer) shows up to help and he and Michael are attacked in their cabin. Somehow the inspector overpowers Veidt and kills him with a stake. Michael is attacked  by the pack but the inspector and 2 hunters save him. In the weird finale Michael reveals his cross to Zoltan and the dog falls off a cliff impaled on a fence. But the evil puppy lives!

This crazy canine caper is more bizarre than bad. The screenplay was written by Frank Ray Perilli (also an actor) who also penned the soft core porno movie CINDERELLA (directed by DOG'S star Pataki) the same year. Albert Band (who produced CINDERELLA) directed.

Jersey Devil

THE BARRENS-A dysfunctional family goes camping in The Pine Barrens in NJ where years before dad Richard (Steven Moyer) had an encounter with the Jersey devil. Now he wants to scatter this grandfather's ashes. They are in a group with some others and a stupid guy tells them the story of a woman who gave birth to a devil. Later the family leaves the group and goes on their own. Richard seems rather paranoid and has strange delusions. When they find a mysterious abandoned camp Richard insists they stay there. Later he admits he killed the family dog. Is Richard nuts or has he got rabies from a dog bite? Despite his violent incoherent behavior it turns out there really is a Jersey devil (terrible effect). Only the children survive but no one believes their story. At the end, the sister joins a group going to hunt the monster down.

Director/writer Darren Lynn Bousman made this disjointed horror film (shot in Canada) a few years after directing several SAW sequels.
