Still Another Sequel

 (themoviedb.org)

PUMPKINHEAD 4-BLOOD FEUD-2007-Stupid hillbillies, The Hatfields & The McCoys are feuding because of an incident with a car years before. When it turns out Jodie (Amy Manson), a Hatfield girl is having an affair with McCoy boy Ricky (Bradley Taylor), two Hatfield brothers (the Hatfields seem the scummier of the two) decide to break up the romance and wind up killing another McCoy daughter, Sarah (Maria Roman). Ricky visits the witch Haggis (Lynee Verell, reprising her role from Part 3) to have her summon the demon Pumpkinhead to get revenge despite the pleadings of the cursed Ed Harley (returning Lance Henriksen).

Gory sfx, bad acting. Written and directed by Mike Hurst (HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2).

Back in Larryland...

COMMON LAW WIFE-1963-Old rich guy Shugfoot Rainey (George Edgley) is tired of his mistress of 5 years Linda (Annie McAdams aka Annabelle Weenick) and throws her over for his young niece Jonelle aka Baby Doll (Lacey Kelly). However because of the state’s common law marriage Linda and dirty old man Rainey are actually husband and wife. Meanwhile Jonelle rekindles an affair she had with her brother in law Sheriff Jody and they plot to get rid of Linda but at a bar where patrons are “nerd twisting” they have a fight and Jonelle takes to the dance floor (she's a dancer anyway). While she’s doing her thing a dullard moonshiner Bull shows up and whups Jody in a fight. Slutty Jonelle takes off with him. They go to his secluded still in the swamps but she denies his advances and flees into the dark. Somehow she winds up in bed at Jody’s place. Her sister Brenda (Libby Booth), Jody's wife convinces her to give up on Jody and she agrees, once again hooking up with Bull, going back to the still and plotting murder.

After Jonelle and Bull have a fling Jody goes to the still but they run away. Somehow Jonelle winds up at Jody's house with with him and they insult each other. Then Brenda discovers them kissing fully clothed on their bed. She takes hubby's gun and forces Jonelle to leave. She gets arsenic laced moonshine from Bull and gives it to Linda who gives it to Rainey. Before he drinks it Linda becomes very emotional spilling her guts out to Rainey. It almost seems he might take her back but he drinks the poisoned hooch and dies. Linda finds Jonelle at a bar and says Rainey wants to see her. Linda shoots Jonelle to death (and a bloody mess) then drinks the poisoned booze and dies.

Sleazy, funny redneck nonsense, this movie was started by Larry Buchanan (his first) and later had scenes added by a guy named Eric Sayers.

Child Bride

CHILD BRIDE-1938-A school teacher Miss Carol (Diana Durrell) tries to stop child marriages among “mountain people” in her old rural hillbilly burg. But the main focus is on Jennie (Shirley Mills ) a 12 year old girl who's father (George Humpreys) is a moonshiner but likes the teacher. One night a bunch of inbred idiots kidnap Carol with the intent of tar and feathering her because she preaches again them “marrying young uns”. Fortunately Jennie's dad and his moonshining buddies Angelo (Angelo Rossitto) and Happy (Al Bannon) save her. He seems ok but later he gets drunk and thinks his wife is fooling around with his sleazy partner Jake so he beats her. Pa winds up dead so Jake (Warner Richmond) blackmails Jennie's ma into letting him marry Jennie!

Carol also has a district attorney boyfriend who tries to get pass a law prohibiting the marriages. When he talks to the governor he addresses him as “your excellency”. Though promoted as “educational” (and thus avoiding most censors) this exploitation film is kind of bizarre and depraved especially the marriage ceremony. And then the happy couple get ready for their wedding night! Whew! Fortunately a well placed bullet put into Jake stops that before it even starts and the Jennie and Freddie go home together.

One character uses a very racist line that I won't repeat here. The most notorious scene is when Jennie takes off her clothes (and is topless for a minute) and swims nude in a lake!

This was the last film directed by Harry Revier who had made LASH OF THE PENTENTIES and several silent Tarzan movies. A 1945 reissue was “presented” by Kroger Babb. With the exception of Mills (who was later in THE GRAPES OF WRATH), Richmond and Rossitto most of the rest of the cast never made another movie!

Feudin' Fools

FEUDIN' FOOLS-1952-The Bowery Boys go south! Sach (Huntz Hall) inherits a plantation (it looks like the house Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor lived in on TV's GREEN ACRES). He's of course joined by bossy Slip (Leo Gorcey) and Chuck (David Gorcey) and Butch (Bennie Bartlett). They get embroiled in a feud between hillbillies named Smith and Jones (Sach's full name is Horace Debussy Jones). Like Curly Howard did in a couple of 3 Stooges shorts instead of a coonskin cap Sach wears skunk! All goes well for a while and a female hillbilly (Dorothy Ford who was in JACK AND THE BEANSTALK with Abbott & Costello) falls for Sach.

Naturally when things start to get dull little Louie Dumbrowsky (Bernard Gorcey) shows up and is mistaken for a revenuer ("In the Civil War I was neutral".) After a lot of tired gags and Sach's mugging Lyle Talbott shows up as a bank robber wounded during a robbery. Louie has to pretend he's a doctor and then the gangsters shoot it out with The Smiths (kind of like in NEXT OF KIN....not!).

Some of the Hillbillies are played by Oliver Blake, perennial hillbilly portrayer Robert Easton (who was also the dialect coach) and Paul Wexler (later the scary Indian headhunter in THE FOUR SKULLS OF JONATHAN DRAKE). Fuzzy Knight is Traps and Arthur Space is a banker. Screenwriter Tim Ryan (who penned a few others in the series) was also an actor. William Beaudine directed again.
