BOGGY CREEK ll: AND THE LEGEND CONTINUES-1983-Anthropologist Dr. Brian Lockhart (writer/director Charles B. Pierce) takes 3 students, Tim (Chuck Pierce), Tanya (Serene Hedin), Leslie (Cindy Butler) on a trek to find “The Boggy Creek Creature” in Arkansas. They wander around and Lockhart tells some Bigfoot stories (shown in flashbacks). At night, while camping they have a creature encounter. Lockhart shoots it with a tranquilizer dart but nothing happens. The “dumb” girls go joy riding and get stuck in the mud. They kind of encounter the creature and run away. Later, they meet Old Man Crenshaw (Jimmy Dlem), a fat, shirtless hillbilly in overalls who's holding a wounded baby creature. During a storm, the creature attacks but Lockhart gives it the baby and it leaves. 

Stupid, low budget, badly acted sequel although it is actually the third movie in the “Boggy Creek series”! Chuck Pierce had previously starred in his dad's WINDS OF AUTUMN (1976).

TV Snow Monster

SNOW BEAST-1977-At the Rill ski lodge winter carnival owned by Emma (Sylvia Sidney), a snow monster kills a skier. Her grandson, Tony (Robert Logan) wants to report it but Emma is afraid it will hurt business. Then a ski patrol member is killed. Meanwhile, former Olympic gold medal winning skier, now disillusioned, Gar Seberg (Bo Svenson) and his unhappy reporter wife Ellen (Yvette Mimieux), Tony's former lover, come for a visit (Gar is looking for a job). Tony believes in the monster and wants to hire Gar to kill it but Gar is more sympathetic. They try to convince the sheriff (Clint Walker) that a Bigfoot is running around. The white hairy creature attacks the lodge and Ellen gets lost in the woods. Gar and Ellen get trapped in a cabin with the monster outside. The sheriff kills a bear and that seems to close the case even though everyone at the lodge saw the attack! Gar, Helen and Tony convince the sheriff to go hunting just in case. After the sheriff is killed, Gar has a snowdown, I mean showdown with the monster. 

The dumbest part of this made for TV movie is the monster POV shots including one with a ski pole. Written by Joseph Stefano (PSYCHO (1960) and directed by Herb Wallerstein who directed many TV show episodes but Snow Beast is his only full-length movie.

 Unfortunately, he was killed in 1985 by his live-in maid who claimed self-defense.

THE LEGEND OF BIGFOOT-1975-Tracker Ivan Marx, "the last of a dying breed", goes to Alaska to prove Kodiak bears are not killing cattle. He scoffs when a farmer tells him it's Bigfoot. Then his brother in law shows him 700 yr old cave drawings of "stick man" who the local Indians say kidnapped children. Then he finds giant footsteps in the snow. Later on he films the hairy monster! If you're a fan of nature you might enjoy the nature scenes that contain no Bigfoot footage. Marx was the cinematographer as well as one of the executive producers.

 It's all bs and Marx's bombastic narration doesn't help. Some say he was the first person to find Bigfoot prints. They've also said it's his wife dressed as Bigfoot. He starred in IN THE SHADOW OF BIGFOOT in 1977, another pseudo-documentary. Director Harry Winer did mostly TV after this but in 1986 directed SPACE CAMP. Music by Don Peake, one of the guitarists for the Wrecking Crew.

BIGFOOT: THE CURSE OF BLOOD MOUNTAIN-2014-More dorks in the woods and Bigfoot hunters are ripe for slaughter in this well directed and photographed nonsense. This time the hairy guy could be a Cherokee spirit that kills humans who desecrate Indian burial grounds. The thing I liked best about it was the running time. 1 hour 15 mins. Good job, producer/director Chris Simoes!

AMERICAN BIGFOOT-2017-A Bigfoot goes on a murderous rampage after a drunken redneck kills its offspring. A detective named Benson (Zach Galligan, who seems to be somewhere else) looks into it. A doctor (Clint Howard) calls in a Bigfoot expert (Dave Sherill) and he team's up with Benson and a ranger (Johnny Lechner). The Bigfoot is a gray hairy thing with a small face. It kidnaps a young boy. After a lot of talk, it just ends with the Bigfoot still out there. 

Writer/director Glenn Martin followed this up with another Bigfoot movie. Also known as KAMPOUT.

BIGFOOT-1970-In the Pacific Northwest (?), Jasper (John Carradine) & Elmer (John Mitchum; Robert's brother), two itinerants, need water for their jalopy. Meanwhile Joi Landis (Joi Lansing in her last movie) heads out in a plane and has engine trouble. While getting the water Elmer sees strange footprints and hears weird noises. Joi parachutes out and on the ground encounters something. Roll credits.

 Jasper & Elmer stop at a general store run by Mr. Bennett (Ken Maynard in his last movie) where a motorcycle gang has just left. The gang's leader Rick (Christopher Mitchum; Robert's son), and his girlfriend Bobbie (Jennifer Bishop from several Al Adamson movies) find a mysterious graveyard (“Dig the size of these graves”). They are attacked by a hairy creature that knocks out Rick and steals his girl. Rick calls the hick sheriff Cyrus (James Craig; Bert I. Gordon's THE CYCLOPS) but he won't come by so he calls his gang. Before they arrive Jasper and Elmer drive Rick to the place where he had his encounter. Jasper wants to capture the creature alive. Meanwhile in the Bigfoot camp, Bobbie and Joi are prisoners. While tied to trees they discuss the missing link and call their captors “sub-human”. Apparently there's a whole family including a "hybrid" baby. The Bigfoots attack Jasper, Elmer and Rick. Meantime, Rick's gang now lead by Wheels (Lindsey Crosby; Bing's son) go looking for their friends. They hook up with locals Slim (Nick Raymond) and Hardrock (former boxer Kid Chisum) who lost an arm to a Bigfoot. Joi is taken to be sacrificed to a much larger Bigfoot but she escapes when a grizzly bear attacks. The gang rescues the captives. Doodles Weaver has one scene as a ranger. Haji (from FASTER PUSSYCAT, KILL KILL!) is one of the girl bikers. 

This is a pretty inept movie is almost saved by the interesting casting. Director Robert F. Slatzer (who once claimed to be married to Marilyn Monroe for three days!) filmed this partially in Northern California where many Bigfoot sightings took place. He later wrote the Bing Crosby biography “The Hollow Man”. Ken Maynard started out as a stuntman in silent films and became a huge western star beginning in the late 1920's but by the late '30's his career was nearly over. One of his scenes in BIGFOOT shows him talking on the phone, a poster from one of his movies on the wall. Lindsey Crosby was one of father Bing's four sons (with singer Dixie Lee). He battled depression and alcoholism most of his adult life and committed suicide at age 51 in 1989. Doodles Weaver was a radio comedian who later played with Spike Jones and was the uncle of actress Sigourney Weaver. In the early '60's a he hosted a children's show “Day With Doodles”. His career was hampered by alcoholism and he committed suicide in 1983.

Bigfoot!

BIGFOOT (MAN OR BEAST)-1972-J. English Smith is your host and narrator. There's lots of interviews with yokels who encounter the creature. They are pretty amusing. Some scientists talk pros and cons. Famous ape impersonator stuntman Jonas Proska chimes in. Once again the Patterson film is examined. Bob Morgan, a little bald guy in a loud shirt puts together an expedition to hunt Bigfoot. It's obvious he and his companions are acting. It's all talk talk talk with footprint examinations and wildlife footage. You know they never find anything because if they had this movie wouldn't be languishing away on You Tube. Just when Morgan thinks he's gonna make his big score a forest fire conveniently breaks out ruining his plans. Teary eyed he leaves vowing to return next year...

Director Lawrence Crowley also made MYSTERIES FROM BEYOND THE TRIANGLE. I don't think Bob Morgan ever caught Bigfoot but in 1976 he wrote, directed and starred in the horror movie BLOOD STALKERS...

Unfortunately It Does...

EXISTS-2015-5 losers go to a remote cabin and film it. They act like morons and do a lot of stupid things. They have an encounter with Bigfoot at night and decide to leave the next morning but their car gets wrecked. So instead of running away in the day time they go back to the cabin to spend another night! One guy tries to get help on his dirt bike but Bigfoot gets him. Since this is found footage there's lots of shouts of “Go! Go! Go!” and shots of feet. It seems they killed it's baby. A relative to one of the campers, Uncle Bob somehow shows up but is killed. The remaining survivor does a “mea culpa” for Daddyfoot and gets to live. 

Filmed in Texas by Eduardo Sanchez, director of THE SEVENTH MOON and co-directed of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT.

Should Have Stayed Lost

BIGFOOT COUNTY-2012-This is an extreme rip-off of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT except this time three people investigate the legend of Bigfoot. There's interviews with locals and the usual farting around by the so called investigators but mostly it's them screaming in the dark after hearing mysterious noises. It turns out the trio are really being menaced by some asshole rednecks protecting their marijuana crop (there's a DELIVERANCE style rape scene) but the last four seconds of the movie justify the title.

I really hated this annoying piece of garbage and director Stephon Stewart (who directed episodes of the soap operas GENERAL HOSPITAL and THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS before this) should have kept his "found footage" lost....

A similar (and better I'm told) plot was done the same year in BIGFOOT:THE LOST COAST TAPES.

Real or Not Real?

THE MYSTERIOUS MONSTERS-1976-Pseudo-documentary from Sunn Classics. Hands on narrator Peter Graves is your host for this examination of the Bigfoot phenomenon. He visits sites where the creatures have been sighted, interviews eye witnesses and skeptics. Many locals testify to their experiences and other stories and photos are used but (except for the controversial Roger Patterson film) all the Bigfoot action is reenacted. (a note at the end of the credits says: Portions of this film taken from “Land of The Yeti”....) 

There's a rather lengthy segment on The Loch Ness Monster and psychic celebrity Peter Hurkos convinces Graves that Bigfoot is real. Hypno-tism and lie detector tests are also used to confirm the legend's ex-istence. It's outdated, far fetched and not as entertaining as other ones of it's genre (or pseudo-genre?).

Although writer/director Robert Guenette (who died in 2008) also made MONSTERS! MYSTERIES OR MYTHS?  and THE WORLD OF PSYCHIC PHENOMENON he also tackled more serious projects like segments of TV's HEROES OF THE GAME, cable's CRAZY ABOUT THE MOVIES and the excellent documentary ORSON WELLES :WHAT WENT WRONG?  

Not very important note: Though always referred to as The Mysterious Monsters, the film is actually titled BIGFOOT:THE MYSTERIOUS MONSTER. At least the version I saw was (it was taken from a 16 mm print).

Boggy Creek

THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK-1972-This pseudo-documentary (very popular in the '70's) is about a legendary Bigfoot like monster prowling around the swamps in Arkansas. It's mostly staged scenes but the dialogue and narration are funny. 

The narrator (an adult who encountered the monster as a little boy) sets up the other “encounters” by giving background on the characters and their situations before they are terrorized. The songs “The Legend of Boggy Creek” and “Nobody Sees The Sun But Me” are occasionally heard. The narrator says things like “The creeks. He always follows the creeks” and partially blames the creature's attacks on “lonely frustration”.The barely seen hairy beast only attacks one person and mostly kills chickens, dogs and cats plus frightening humans. Since some actors (like Smokey Crabtree and his son Travis) are playing themselves so I guess there is a sort of real story to the whole thing. But it's all reenactments including the footage of the “the legend”.

TLOBC was shot and directed by Charles B. Pierce in his film debut. He went on to make other regional films including THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN, THE NORSEMEN and the semi-sequel BOGGY CREEK ll: THE LEGEND CONTINUES in 1984 which despite the title is actually the second sequel. The first sequel RETURN TO BOGGY CREEK is really a children's movie. Pierce was also a set designer for bigger budgeted films and wrote the story for the Dirty Harry installment SUDDEN DEATH in which the catch phrase “Make my day” was first used. 

Music was composed by Bolivian born Jaime Mendoza-Nava, who wrote tons of low budget soundtracks.
