It Can't Happen Here

 (alarmy)

EAT THAT QUESTION: FRANK ZAPPA IN HIS OWN WORDS-2016-If you like the music of Frank Zappa (I do) then you should like this bio/documentary about him. Many interviews are shown (US and Europe) along with concert footage (some with the original Mothers Of Invention and various incarnations), rehearsals, scenes from 200 Motels and Baby Snakes, his very early TV appearance on “The Steve Allen Show”. Even his appearance as a mystery guest on "What's My Line?". Director Thorsten Shutte includes a lot of rare footage too.

Wilburys

 (wikipedia)

THE TRUE STORY OF THE TRAVELING WILBURYS-2007-Great overview documentary about the last real super group (George Harrison,Bob Dylan,Roy Orbison,Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne with drummer Jim Keltner) and why it came about and how they wrote, played and recorded the album in the spring of 1988 at Dave Stewart's house. It's ultimately a little sad of course since Roy Orbison died so suddenly (and Harrison & Petty are both gone now...). Probably could have been longer but nevertheless a nice little documentary.

They Might Be Gigantic?

GIGANTIC-2003-This is an interesting documentary on the band THE MIGHT BE GIANTS but it won't mean much unless you're a fan (which I am).

Concert footage is shown (a couple of songs in their entirety) and the two Johns (Flansburgh & Linnell) talk about their music and each other. They seem to like playing together! Interviews with people who've worked them (including Joe Franklin and Frank Black) are also included. Scenes from their rarely seen (nowdays anyway) videos are also shown. Some time is wasted having well known fans (I guess...) like Andy Richter, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean recite TMBG lyrics. The late Illinois senator Paul Simon introduces the film making me think at first I had the wrong tape in!
