Corman/Argentina

 (imdb)

DEATHSTALKER-1983-Some warrior dickhead called Deathstalker (Richard Hill) is convinced by a witch to get an amulet of power from the stronghold of the evil Kang (Victor Bo) and reunite "the 3 powers". Along the way he meets another loser, Ogris (Richard Brooker; Jason in FRIDAY THE 13-PART 3) and warrior woman Kaira (Lana Clarkson; later the star of BARBARIAN QUEEN (1985)). Deathstalker saves a woman (Barbi Benton) Kang planned sacrifice.

One of ten films Roger Corman produced in Argentina when he owned New World, it features outrageously bad sfx, acting and dialogue.

Directed by John Watson who under his real last name Sbardellati was mostly an assistant director. Written by Howard Cohen, who besides writing a couple of sequels also penned VAMPIRE HOOKERS (1978) and THE UNHOLY ROLLERS (1972). Tragically, co-star Lana Clarkson was murdered by Phil Spector in 2003.

Weird Anthology

 (themoviedb)

WILD TALES-2014-This is a bizarre black comedy anthology Argentine-Spanish co-production with a ensemble vast. A pre-credits story (“Pasternak”) deals with a plane load of passengers all connected by knowing the same man named Pasternak. In the second, “The Rats”, a waitress meets a customer, a loan shark, who drove her father to suicide. She doesn't know what to do but the cook has an idea. In the third “The Strongest”, a man with a flat tire is terrorized by a driver he insulted earlier. Their fight results in a sardonic ending.

In “Little Bomb”, a demolition expert runs into problems when his car is towed. His wife wants a divorce, he's arrested then fired from his job. When he uses his expertise to get revenge, well things change. The next and most serious one, “The Proposal”, involves a prominent man who wants to pay his gardener to take the blame for his son's hit and run murder. Everything snowballs but this has too much of an abrupt ending. It ends with “Till Death Do Us Part”. At her wedding a bride finds out that her husband had an affair with one of the guests. It turns into a wedding no one will ever forget.

EL VAMPIRO NEGRO-1953-This is essentially an Argentine remake/adaptation of Fritz Lang's M with a timid man who is actually a child killer. There are some side stories about the prosecutor who's hunting him, who roughs up a lot of suspects and puts the moves on a night club dancer Rita who rejects his advances. (His wife is an invalid) He plans to have her daughter taken away but "the vampire" (as the killer is known) kidnaps the girl. He's eventually trapped in the sewers by the city's beggars.

Director Ramon Vinoly Barretto was highly regarded in his home country but died suddenly in 1970 at age 54.

Last For 2023

 (imdb)

BLOOD OF THE VIRGINS-1967-In the 19th century a woman Ofelia (Susana Beltran) is getting ready for her wedding and marriage to Eduardo. She also has a lover Gustavo (Walter Kliche) who seems to have a spell over her. Ofelia confesses to Gus that she has some misgivings about the wedding but since her family wouldn't allow her to be with her lover, she goes ahead and marries Eduardo. On their wedding night, it's revealed that Gustavo is a vampire. He kills Ed and makes Ofelia a vampire so they can be together forever. In the present a bunch of hip idiots go go dance on a yacht and on the beach (a few topless) and make out just to take up time. Later Gustavo and Ofelia return but she has grown tired of her existence. This fairly drawn out nonsense from Argentina was directed by Emilio Vieyra (THE CURIOUS DR. HUMP (1969)).

Sequel?

 (imdb)

WIZARDS OF THE LOST KINGDOM 2-1989-Failed wizard Caedmon (Mel Welles) guides a young stupid kid Tybor (Robert Jayne) with a terrible haircut, to becoming a wizard so they can free three cities from the clutches of 3 wizards. They want a mercenary The Dark One (David Carradine) to help them but he doesn't want to leave his busy bar. Meanwhile Princess Amathea (Lana Clarkson) helps them and organizes an army. One wizard Loki (Edward Blackoff) tries to turn them to stone. A sorceress Freya (Diana Barton) and the wizard Donar (Sid Haig) have a sword the good guys want. Later The Dark One shows up to help them battle Zatz (outrageously overacting Henry Brandon in his last film role).

It's basically a comedy, one of the handful of movies directed by Charles Griffith better known for this screenwriting efforts (LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, NOT OF THIS EARTH), many produced (and or directed) by Roger Corman who co-produced this filmed in Argentina “sequel” which has no characters from the first one! It also features stock footage from other sword and sorcery productions made by Corman's company Concorde. Co-star Clarkson was shot and killed by Phil Spector in 2003.
