THE BRAIN MACHINE-1972-Four people volunteer for a government experiment run by two weird male doctors (Gil Peterson and Doug Collins) and female doc (Barbara Burgess) for the Environmental Control Center. Nothing much happens except the 4 have a lot of hang ups. Everything goes awry in this confused low budget boredom. 

With Gerald McRaney as one of the guinea pigs, Stuart Lancaster as a senator and James Best as a preacher. Director Joy N. Houck Jr. had previously made NIGHT OF BLOODY HORROR (1969) and WOMEN AND BLOODY TERROR (1970), both with McRaney.

NIGHT OF BLOODY HORROR-1969-Wesley Stewart (Gerald McRaney) seems to have a few problems like his nagging mom and having spent 13 years in a mental hospital for accidentally killing his brother. When he goes out to a bar and gets drunk, 3 jerks beat him up and take his money. He's helped by a nurse. They begin a relationship that's shown in still pictures. Unfortunately, Wes it seems has psychotic episodes that make him kill. When he leaves the nurse on the beach alone (at night), he comes back and kills her with an axe. Or does he? 

This shot in New Orleans, no budget horror bore has scenes that are way too dark. Director/co-writer Joy N. Houck Jr. (THE BRAIN MACHINE (1972)) followed this up the next year with WOMEN AND BLOODY TERROR, also featuring the co-star of TV's “Simon & Simon”.

D Minus Is More Like It

THE A-TEAM-2010-I never matched the original A-Team TV show in the ‘80’s but it had to be better than this re-make. Liam Neeson is Col. Hannibal Smith (the character originally played by George Peppard) head of the title team. Bradley Cooper (from THE HANGOVER) is Face, Sharlto Copley (from DISTRICT 9) is Capt. Murdoch and MMA fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is B.A. They go to Iran to recover some counterfeit plates but are framed for the death of a general (Gerald McRaney) and go to jail. Later they escape and go looking for the jerk who framed them. Henry Czerny is a stupid FBI director who says “awesome” a lot. Jennifer Biel chases after them. It’s mostly yelling and explosions and a long scene in a car without any of the leads seems like a waste of time. Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz have cameos. Go rent the original series instead. Director Joe Carnahan also made SMOKIN’ ACES.
