Curiouser and Curiouser

 (imdb)

THE CURIOUS FEMALE-1970-In the far future where Los Angeles is a floating island and the world is controlled by "The Great Computer" a group of groovy swingers (including Angelique Pettyjohn) wearing underwear watch some movies in secret (all movies are banned). This innocuous badly made soft core porn probably wasn't even funny when it first released.

Director Paul Rapp had worked for Roger Corman and was assistant director on films like BOXCAR BERTHA, THE TRIP, THE TERROR and others.

It Stinks!

 (IMDB)

THE STINK OF FLESH-2005-This zombie apocalypse soft core porn film was made by some sick fuck in New Mexico. There's gory blood spurting, flesh eating, rough sex with a female zombie, a woman with a conjoined twin, terrible acting, and '80's synth soundtrack. The director Scott Phillips also wrote some episodes of a “Kamen Rider” series.

Dirty Jokes

STOP IT OR YOU’LL GO BLIND-1975-This is essentially a bunch of dirty jokes turned into little skits probably influenced by TV’s Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In. Some of it is funny but the musical numbers are pretty bad. Uschi Digard plays various roles and gag writer/comic Pat McCormick is in it as well. Co-director Keefe Brasselle sings in the finale. He must have had one foot on skid row when he made this. Supposedly he made a sequel but one is enough for me.

Brasselle was an actor who starred in the 1953 film bio THE EDDY CANTOR STORY. It was suppose to make him a star but the movie didn't do that well. The next year he was was given a spot on an episode of TV's THE COLGATE COMEDY HOUR (series regulars Abbott & Costello make an appearance too). He later produced several TV series for CBS but none caught on. The bitter Brasselle later wrote a fictional account of his dealings with the network cleverly entitled “The CanniBalS”. A second novel “The Barracudas” attacked many famous TV personalities (hidden under fictitious names). Apparently he had trouble getting work after departing CBS which may explain his involvement with this production. Brasselle died in 1981 at the age of 58.

Do You Really Care About The Storyline?

BIKINI GIRLS FROM THE LOST PLANET-2006-This is just soft core sexual hi jinx with science fiction trappings from Fred Olen Ray (under the pseudonym Nicolas Medina). There are several lesbian scenes and the acting is pretty funny. Ted Newsom who directed EDWARD WOOD: LOOK BACK IN ANGORA is in it. Also with Nicole Sheridan, Christine Nguyen and Rebecca Love.

Naked Mummies

THE MUMMY'S KISS-(2002)-This is sort of a soft-core remake of the original MUMMY movie from 1932! Except the reincarnated mummy in this one is a lesbian princess. But who is anyone kidding? It's all just an excuse to show a lot of women naked, having a good time with each other. Most of the actress appear nude (or at least topless). It even features a flashback to ancient Egypt.

Richard Lynch appears as a professor and wears some weird robes. Mia Zottoli plays the evil title role. Arthur Roberts plays Orisis.

Director/writer Donald F. Glut was known for making clever amateur home movies in the '60's and later wrote for cartoon shows like "Scooby-Doo", "Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends" and "The Transformers".

Guess he got tired of cartoons...

More Quickies

Kind of busy doing stuff around here so I have to keep it short!

STRAY DOG-(Nora inu)-1949-Akira Kurosawa’s early classic film about the frantic search for a homicide detective’s missing gun. Several murder victims are found, killed with bullets from his gun. A very young Toshiro Mifune plays the harried detective Murakami and Takashi Shimura (the Japanese John Carradine) is another detective who helps him. Kurosawa had already made THOSE WHO TREAD ON THE TIGER’S TAIL and DRUNKEN ANGEL but would only establish himself the next year with RASHOMON. Sometimes overlooked, STRAY DOG is a must see!!

SPIDERBABE-2003-This is a soft-core porn version of SPIDER-MAN (duh..) featuring Misty Mundae as Patricia Poker, a nerdy girl who gets spider type powers and has sex with many women. She fights a super villain called Femtilian and likes a guy named MJ. It copies several scenes from Sam Raimi’s better-known version (and one from BATMAN and ROBIN) but it’s all extremely low budget and badly executed (even for a direct to video porn).

Mundae has starred in a lot of direct to video porn recently many of them horror themed including LUST FOR DRACULA, VAMPIRE VIXENS and SCREAMING DEAD.

MONSTER ROAD-2004-This is an interesting documentary about the brilliant but eccentric clay animator Bruce Bickford. It examines his influences, his ideas, his painstaking technique and philosophy in his own words and those of his father  a retired Boeing engineer now suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Excerpts of his work are shown and they might make you want to see more. He’s also the subject of THE AMAZING MR. BICKFORD (1987) a video that was released by Frank Zappa who used much of his animation in his BABY SNAKES.

KING BOXER-1971-Not very thrilling Martial Arts film that begins with a seemingly endless scene of a couple riding an elephant. A group of friends get revenge for the killing of their “King of Boxers”. Like many boring Kung-Fu movies this one is saved by a bloody out of control finale. One of the stars Meng Fei was later in 5 FINGERS OF DEATH. Japanese actor Yasuaki Kurata who plays the main villain here later produced and starred in BLOODFIGHT (1989) a Japanese rip-off of DEATHSPORT done in English!

REVENGE OF THE DRAGON-1972-This is a typical ‘70’s martial arts action drama from Hong Kong complete with bad dubbing, unintentional laughs and crazy fights. A man seeks revenge against a gang boss responsible for his wife’s death. The title theme sounds like a “Shaft” outtake. Director Hung Chiang also made a movie called KUNG FU: THE HEAD CRUSHER. Not to be confused with Bruce Lee’s RETURN OF THE DRAGON that was sometimes called Revenge on cable TV prints.
